WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
• Non-native teachers of Young Learners.
• Non-native Primary school teachers who are converting to teaching English.
• You will need at least a lower intermediate (not elementary or beginner) level of English to participate in this course.

WHAT IS THE RATIONALE FOR THESE COURSE?
The courses are for teachers of Young Learners who need to:
Improve their ability and confidence in their use of English.
Develop their teaching skills for Young Learners. The courses are practical. By 'doing' activities designed for the Primary classroom, you will experience the methodology from the Young Learner's perspective.
Teachers on this course normally have an intermediate level of English. The course is both a language improvement and a methodology course.

WHAT ARE THE KEY COURSE CONTENTS?
Topics include:

  • Methodology for Teaching:
  • Teaching the 4 skills (listening/reading/writing/speaking).
  • Creative activities for Young Learners.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Chants, rhymes and songs + storytelling, drama and music.
  • Using communicative learning activities in Primary teaching contexts.
  • Language for the Teacher:
  • Pronunciation work (through children's songs and rhymes).
  • Work on grammar and vocabulary.
  • Language for the classroom.
  • Building confidence in teaching in and through English - particularly through drama activities.
  • Developing listening skills and language use.
