FULL DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING CONTENTS
IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE TRAINING: (EN)
Preparation Participants will be qualified practising teachers of English as a Foreign Language.They will be asked to complete a detailed questionnaire which will indicate their level of experience and the ages and nationalities of students they have taught.
Objectives To give existing teachers the opportunity to consolidate and improve their teaching skills as well as introduce them to new classroom techniques combined with an insight into British life and culture. The course will help participants develop professionally as a teacher by exploring their own teaching experience and developing new ideas. They will take home a wide variety of practical teaching activities which can be adapted to their own class and style. They will have the opportunity to get an insight into British culture and changes in the language, as well as improve their grasp of the English language.
Methodology A combination of formal lectures, discussion groups, practical exercises, research projects and cultural visits. A variety of teaching methodologies and classroom activities will be explored, both in a workshop environment and when observing live classes. During lectures and discussions information, and material, will be given on British life, culture,systems and media. Partipicipants will be provided with a bank of classroom ideas to take back to their school. Trainees will study real English expressions and colloquialisms. There will be the opportunity to visit a British school or observe other teachers at work in Wimbledon School of English.
Follow-up Completion of the course will allow candidates to return to the classroom with renewed enthusiasm and confidence and a clearer understanding of the culture to which the language relates. Participants will be encouraged to maintain contact with both colleagues and tutors via e-mail. They will also be encouraged to keep a weekly diary recording the influence on their work of what they have studied.

Day 1: Grammar in context; changing language; Integrated skills lesson; topic based learning, new methodologies in ELT
Day 2: Listening & speaking skills; Using authentic listening; exploiting reading texts; newspaper articles & current affairs lessons; teaching high levels; dealing with pronunciation
Day 3: The lexical approach; practical vocabulary activities; using multi-media in the classroom
Day 4:Exploiting coursebooks and readers; lesson planning; warmers and fillers; roleplays & discussions; course design to meet learners' needs
Day 5: Writing skills; promoting learner autonomy; dictation; continuing professional development.
NB. One of these sessions will be replaced by a visit to a local school, when participants get the opportunity to sit in on lessons. This course plan is altered to suit the needs of the participants of each course, based on their needs analyses.
